Reverend Selena Dale Burroughs, PhD., 76, peacefully departed this world and went home to be with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 8, 2022.
Affectionately known as “Dr. Dale” by her many friends and colleagues, Dale never met “a mere mortal” and regardless of the circumstances, she always tried to share the “Love of Christ” with all those whom she encountered. Whether she was building an enduring relationship while serving as a co-laborer on the board of a community organization, or she was merely sharing the next seat over on an airplane, Dr. Dale was always ready to be a witness for Jesus.
Dale was born physically on December 4, 1945 and was “Born-Again” spiritually (John 3:16) through child evangelism at the age of 4 years old, thus becoming a lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ. Her favorite song, “Jesus Loves Me” played a major role in her “spiritual re-birth” and throughout her life, Dale was often heard singing, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak, but He is Strong!” 1 John 4:19
Dr. Dale was in full-time Christian ministry for over 50 years. She loved the Lord Jesus, with all her heart, soul, strength and mind (Luke 10:27) and throughout her life, Dale taught others to do the same. Dr. Dale’s priority in life was to “make and grow” disciples of Jesus Christ. She served in critical roles in the ministries of several very well-known Christian leaders, including, but not limited to: Dr. Bill Bright’s Campus Crusade for Christ, Dr. Henry Brandt Ministries (Institute for Christian Living), Dr. David Jeremiah’s “Turning Point” TV ministry, Beverly La Haye’s “Concerned Women for America.” and other ministries too numerous to list. Dr. Dale also served as a Professor in the Psychology Departments of 2 Christian Colleges (San Diego Christian College and Palm Beach Atlantic University). Additionally, Dr. Dale even assisted world renowned Christian author, Josh McDowell with research, editing and publishing of Evidence That Demands A Verdict and several of his other earlier works. Serving in ministry with so many other Christian Leaders inspired Dr. Dale to start her own ministry, The Biblical Heritage Institute (BHI) which she founded, operated and presided over in Bradenton, Florida until her recent passing. Dr. Dale Burroughs, B.S., M.A., M.Litt., PhD.(x2) was an Ordained Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a Biblical Pastoral Counselor, and a Certified Behavioral, Career, and Temperament Counselor. As a tribute to Dr. Dale’s Legacy, the BHI Board has decided to continue operating and making“Disciples for Jesus Christ”
Dr. Dale wore many hats and served on the Board of many organizations, both Faith-based, as well as civic/secular. While serving at all levels, whether nationally, in the state of Florida or locally, Dr. Dale made sharing the “Love of Christ” priority #1. Dr. Dale was proud to work with organizations like “Wall Builders” in Texas, The Museum of the Bible & the Arlington Group Coalition in Washington, DC, but she was also proud to serve at the local level with the Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy Alumni and on the Board of Manatee Crime Stoppers.
Dr. Dale loved to visit Israel (where some of her ashes will be deposited). Perhaps one of her proudest accomplishments was participating in Israel’s 4th most important archeological digs in Jerusalem, which yielded the “Silver Scrolls”. These scrolls not only contain the Priestly Prayer found in Deuteronomy, but also are the oldest relics found in Jerusalem with the “written” name of God. These scrolls pre-date the Dead Sea Scrolls by nearly 500 years.
Dale always said that The Lord enabled her to live 3+ lifetimes, in one. She credits not only believing but “living out” her life’s verses 1Thess. 5:16-19 and the promises found in other scriptures such as Romans 8:28 (“All things work together for the good, for those who love God and are called according to His purpose”). Romans 8:31, John 14:27, 1 John 1:9, Hebrews 12:6-12.
Dr. Dale was survived by her Mother, Mary “Swanee” Burroughs of Bradenton, but she went to be with the Lord 10 days after Dale departed. Their surviving family includes Dr. Dale’s sister, Mrs. Darlene (Larry) Williams of Faxon, OK. (along with their children and grandchildren). There are additional surviving relatives of the Burroughs Family in Michigan as well as the Wilson Family in South Carolina.
